"Life is just like an old time rail journey ... delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride." Gordon B. Hinckley

Conference

I have always enjoyed Conference weekend. It is hard for me to get to church sometimes when our church is at 9:00 a.m. with 3 little ones and a husband who works a lot of Sundays. And it seems like when we do go I spend a lot of time in the hall with my baby, so I miss a lot of what is taught. So Conference was nice to be able to sit in my home with my girls and just listen. We had a wonderful weekend. I sure missed hearing President Hinckley speak. I always enjoyed listening to him and his challenges for us to do. But I thought President Monson was wonderful and has some very good things to teach us. One of my favorite talks was the one to the mothers. I don't even know who gave it, I was trying to keep my girls quiet and I missed his name. But I heard just about every word that was spoken. When he started off his talk saying that this was for mothers he had my attention. I need all the help I can get most days and his advice was wonderful. I tried to write down some of it and this is what I got from his talk that was important to me.

1. Live in the moment
Don't wish the time away. Enjoy the day and the time you are in. Time goes by so fast and you don't want to someday say "I wish I would have enjoyed my children when they were small."

2. Don't be so busy
Don't be so busy with so many things every week that you don't have time for your children and your family.

3. Have time for yourself
Make sure you save time for yourself. You will be a better mother and wife if you have had time to spend on yourself and feel good about yourself. But don't waste your time on substance abuse, TV, and the Internet.

4. Pray, study, and teach the gospel
The most important things you can do for yourself and your children. Set a good example for them by doing these things.

There was so much more that was said that I enjoyed and when the Ensign comes out with the Conference talks I will keep that talk on hand, that is for sure. If you missed Conference or missed that talk you will have to read it, it was wonderful. Always remember that being a Mother is the best calling anyone could have. We are so blessed to be called Mothers. The Lord must have loved us so much to have chosen us to be a Mother.

That was a wonderful conference. And I guess I must have been trying to keep my kids quiet during that talk because i don't remember it! I will have to look it up and read it because it sounds like one I needed most!

There were some great talks! I absolutely love your cute blog! I don't know if have told you that! I know how you feel about being able to listen at home rather be in the hall at church! I think we should have our lessons in the hall because that is where I spend most of the classes! I guess there will be a time for us to actually be a part of the lessons someday!

I too felt the same way about conference. Loved that talk about mothers. I'm trying desperately hard to remember it today. One of those days if you know what I mean. I thought it was interesting to hear your husband works a lot of Sundays. Mine too. He's a pharmacist. I totally understand how that church thing goes. Sundays are sometimes one of the longest days of the week. I sometimes have a hard time making the most out of Sundays when it's just me and the girls.

I think we should have conference every 3 months instead of 6! It is one of my favorite weekends! I loved Elder Ballards talk on Mothers...and the instructions he gave to husbands and kids was great too! Now if they actually follow it, it will be even better!
